It’s been a hectic month friends. With school getting crazier than ever, it’s nice to reflect on some of the good moments happening this month. For being the shortest month of the year, there sure was a lot packed into it! With March there comes spring break, and I literaly can. not. wait. So needed. How was your February?

COLOR STUDIES | twenty-sixLets start this week off with cheery colors, and a scene that I wish I were involved with…a snow-filled day. Oh how I miss the snow here in Savannah. Yeah, and I’m back with the neon.

snow drawings by sonja hinrichsenMesmerized by these snow drawings created by Sonja Hinrichsen. It’s a seriously rainy day here in Savannah, and I’d love nothing more than for the weather to drop below 32˚ and have all that rain turn into little floaty speckles of glorious snow. A girl can dream.

vintage modern food poster designThese are right up my alley. Created by Diogo Nascimento, these posters are just the right amount of vintage, typographic perfection, and monochromatic illustration. I hope one day I can begin to experiment with illustration and photography integration. Must. Practice.

OUTFITTINGS | secret squirrelI don’t know how I just found out about Secret Squirrel, but I’m falling in love with their winter 2012 collection entitled Art Class. The colors, and the basic prints are just fabulous. Wouldn’t hurt that I’d actually wear all of these things to my art classes.

ART THAT’S INSPIRING | sofia arnoldThis week, I am so grateful for art like Sofia Arnold’s. Thinking about getting away to a whimsical land is just the mood I need to be in as the quarter’s time starts to run thin, and the work keeps piling. The colors and shapes transform me into a very happy place. Pulling colors from stand-out elements in her paintings sparked such an awesome color pallet inspiration too. Take a look at the rest of her work, it’s truly inspiring.

new stepsNot literally, but figuratively of course. Too busy to cliff dive, but it sure does look like a rush. I’m doing a little soul searching, and I think I might have just found my answer. Let’s see how this week goes…

tea bar, packaging design lovingsThis is some of the best tea packaging I have seen in quite some time. Lovely colors, shapes, and designs. Makes me want to make a cup right now and energize my day. Created by Proud Design in the Netherlands. The photo styling is so spot on too, love the juxtaposition of the cups and the product.

DESIGN FILES | how to use typographic inspirationYes, yes, another new column…
I thought it would be appropriate to start showing a bit of my design process, and how I use the different inspirations I find on here and in life. So here it goes:
This past week or so I’ve been designing a little self-promotion piece, and this is a small part of the larger project. For this, I was inspired by the type treatment in this poster. When finding inspiration it’s important to be inspired, rather than imitate. I know it’s hard, and I’m not one to judge, as I’ve accidentally been in fault of this (You know sometimes when you see something totally rad, and then forget about it for a while. One day you get a ‘brilliant’ design idea, and create something totally unique, and then see what you were secretly inspired by in the first place? –yeah, that happens, and it’s part of the design process). Being strategic in thinking and concept is important, and just try any keep that in mind when you start creating. We all make these mistakes, so being thoughtful about what you’re doing will help you from this imitation. Happy designing everyone!
